Why Windows OS assigns 'C' to hard-drive? Why not A or B?
As we all know, Windows operating system gets installed in "C-drive".
The noticeable thing is - Why the hard-drive is labeled as 'C-drive'? Why not 'A' or 'B'?
Before Hard-drives came into the picture, floppy disks were being used for storage purposes.
What is a floppy disk?
According to Wiki, "Floppy disk is a type of disk storage composed of a disk of thin and flexible magnetic storage medium, sealed in a rectangular plastic enclosure."
So, letters A, B, C..... were being assigned to the floppy disks.
During the late 1960s, Hard-drives came into the Market. When Hard-drives came into the picture, the usage of floppy disks went down gradually.
After arrival, letters A, B were assigned to floppy disks and 'C' was assigned to Hard-drive.
DOS 5.0 and higher systems ensure that drive C: is always a hard disk using Algorithms.
Over the years, floppy disks disappeared and significant improvements have been acquired by Hard-drives. The label 'C' became a permanent name for hard-drive.
